"I would take any form of a natural disaster right now"

It surely wasn’t an accident as it was his intention to win that race, hence why he was racing in it. He got a lucky win

And it remains his only cup series win

The average win at daytona is never who we expected to win....
2023 500 proves my point exactly!!!
Busch was literally two laps from victory. When Nascar got jumpy on the caution button, the second suarez went sideways...
Had Suarez made it to Pit Road, the caution would've/should've never come out!
But he unfortunately got stuck in the grass, so they would've had to throw the yellow anyway...
They are so inconsistent with cautions....
They either throw the caution immediately, late or not at all when a car wrecks...
It's pathetic!

I worked as an usher at Daytona that year and remember this well. The day before when the race was scheduled to run there was an infield concert with a country singer native to Central Florida. Rain had been expected but hadn't yet begun so he commented how Good wants to see the race and at once, BOOM, torrential rain like judgment day came down

Literally one week later Kurt finally wins in Kentucky, btw with 1-2 Busch Brothers.

I’m not a diehard Kurt fan, but see he winning in Saturday Night Kentucky racing was MARVELOUS, feels like the happy ending, the ghost or that Daytona lose is finally over

There’s been many races where races have ended due to rain …. I believe Earnhardt and Petty have a few rain shortened wins…

Was extremely proud of Haley last year with his runner up finish at Chicago street course

That kid is better than most of the young stars. What he does with an underfunded team is amazing. Same with Hocevar in the 77.

Now it was a lucky win but I wouldn’t call it a pure accident. He was running well all race and was 3rd when he decided to stay out

That Daytona 500 in 2019 was the first NASCAR Race I watched so that's a bit of a special one for me

The post race interview was one of the most emotional press conferences that I can remember!

Surprised they didn't strip him of the win. NASCAR loves making up rules as they go

That's how races are won. Not the first rain shorten race. And unexpected winner. Its not an accident. It's a victory.

Fred lorinzen won the Daytona 500 in 1965 in the same way.

Well luck fell on his side. He's a good racecar driver, but that one left a bitter taste since he didn't really do anything except stay out to win. That's part of it though.
