Month-long protests against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu escalated in Tel Aviv over the weekend, after he sacked Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
Gallant spoke out against Netanyahu’s plans to overhaul the country’s judiciary, announced in January, and was immediately dismissed, stimulating much public unrest.
Netanyahu’s proposals would give his government more control over judicial appointments and allow Parliament to overturn court decisions with a simple majority vote.
