Man I wish it was this simple.
The problem is conservatism was sort of bought by large corporations that spew inconsistent talking points.
Conservatives should have the world view that you are talking about but it’s being co-opted and shaped by pro-corporate attitudes.
I’m sure they don’t want money in politics, but the right wing oligarchs want to control all the natural resources.

Conservatives are great at building things because they have more corporate backing than progressives, their interests are aligned. But this is changing as more of the public are connecting the dots between establishment politicians and corporate institutions.

I don't think the problem is a progressive or conservative one so much as it's a problem of groups becoming increasingly dogmatic and the growing requirement of ideological conformity.

people are selfish by their very nature, which is precisely why giving authority to people to 'regulate' even more is an absolutely terrible idea

Not a rarity... just in the middle with 40% of the US .. though right now probably 95% of them are leaning anywhere Trump is not

The problem is conservative world view contradicts with well established facts taught to kids in high schools. For example, basic physics and math leads to a complete understanding of global warming, including how it is caused, and the consequences. To cure the disease that is conservatism listening to the patient is not the solution, but rather good public high school education focusing on science.
