The world of watches can be a place of drastic discrepancy in both quality being delivered and the price that comes along with it. And from afar it can be hard to discern why some watches are more than others, so in this video, I wanted to take the opportunity of reviewing/comparing two Seiko Prospex watches with a King Turtle and a model from their LX collection. The former being $600 and the latter being $6,000, so what’s the deal? Let’s take a closer look.

The most I would spend on a seiko is what I can afford. If I could afford 6k on a watch and it was between a 6k omega and 6k grand seiko well it's clear choice for me. Grand seiko spring drive! But, 3 kids, college, and the love of my family... I chose orient and seiko 5s. 🤪

The cinematography/ production value on this is on another level

I think this just speaks to Seiko's ability to be the everyman's watch. Rather than adopting the tactics of Rolex and the big 3 by driving prices sky-high through underhanded restrictions on supply, they've make watches that are aesthetically pleasing at all price brackets. This lets watch-lovers at all price brackets to enjoy their products despite how deep or shallow their pockets are. Their products, even at the lower end are also well built and reliable (my baby turtle keeps time as good as my submariner or speedmaster). Then they also offer innovative design and amazing finishing, if you're able to afford that premium (without the ridiculous wait queues or buy quotas before you're added to a wait list).

Because of this review, I got i complete love with King Turtle, and went to buy it immediately, and now after 6 months, I completely not regretting this decision, what a wonderful watch to wear and solid construction and eye catchy ... thank you Teddy.

The LX would have been a serious flagship killer in the $3.5k to $4k range. It has a lot of tough competition in the $6k range, even within Grand Seiko.

I always thought a spring drive was exclusive to a grand seiko.
As a watch noob, this is refreshing.
Awesome content!

I own a green dial King Turtle. Magnificent timepiece for the price. I’ve tried on a Springdrive LX as well. Astounding quality. Worth every cent.

I have been a Seiko fan for a long time. I fell in love with the LX series, and got the limited edition snr041 last year, which has the brown face and bezel. I love the idea of a "sleeper" watch. Most people don't know. But when someone does, it's a mutual appreciation of the craft. Much different than a Rolex or Omega- people know them for the brand, but many don't appreciate them for the engineering that they deserve. Plus knowing this can't be cloned and sold for $80 in the Hong Kong markets is nice too!

I love the spring drive, but I think if I’m spending $6000 it’s going to be a GS Snowflake 😍 *Not that the LX isn’t an amazing watch in it’s own right.

As beautiful as that LX is, this video really demonstrates the terrific finishing on Seiko's mid-range models. The case and face of the Turtle only suffer when they have to share screen time with a model that's literally an order of magnitude more expensive.

Good to see the turtle getting some love 👍🏻 Picked up an SRPA21 PADI 6 months ago and it has been swiftly pressed into daily use. Punches well above it’s weight for the price and can’t go wrong. Long live the turtle 😎

Getting my first Seiko - a King Turtle, special edition, Save the Ocean - Manta Ray blue dial and I have to be honest, it is so gorgeous looking that I no longer want to wear anything else. I would buy a spring drive just because of the tremendous amount of effort they put in the creation of this movement, it feels like the pinnacle of technology to have such precision and smooth movement. Imagine a post apocalyptic world like Mad Max and someone finds a watch like this and be thinking it must be alien technology

Teddy, I appreciate the explanation on the differences. My watch knowledge is quite small because I'm now learning more about them. However, I've been a musician for over 30 years and have had similar experiences when comparing the differences on a $600 guitar vs a $6000. The manufacturing, attention to detail, type of material used, place of fabrication and perhaps even additional R&D comes into play with instruments. It's interesting to see that both industries have similar traits. Cheers!

That’s one of the smoothest sweeping second hands I’ve ever seen on the LX! Impressive

Teddy they are both great pieces. The problem is most people would not know the difference and that's where the collector vs the person who just needs to tell the time comes in. Great review as always!!!
