This scene hits so hard for me because the mom doesn't make it in time. Her change of heart comes too late. She doesn't get that perfectly-timed run through the airport where she and her daughter embrace and apologize... It's so real and heartbreaking. I love it.

That moment she started to really let it sink in her daughter was leaving and tears came, I knew the emotion was genuine and reminded me of the complex relationship between moms and daughters

I was a sobbing MESS in the theater when I saw this scene because I related to it so much. My mom didn’t want my sister to go to school out of state and my sister eventually accepted a scholarship to the University of Iowa & my mom didn’t even get out of bed on the day my sister left. She finally had a last minute change of heart but my dad and I were already walking back through the door from dropping her off & my mom has regretted her choice everyday since.

LOVE how Greta focused on the mom instead of Lady Bird when she boarded the plane... SUCH a bold decision, and so moving... Proof positive that Greta Gerwig will take her place among the greatest film directors of all time.

Okay so let me just that Laurie's OUTSTANDING expression and emotion shift in the car is one of the BEST pieces of acting there is! She was phenomenal in Lady Bird too bad the Academy is too dumb not to award her.

I really wanted this scene to win her the Oscar

Laurie Metcalf's facial expressions in the car. Masterful work.

Laurie Metcalf deserves an Oscar for acting her heart out just for this one scene if not for the entire Movie... one of the most Heart-Warming scenes I have ever seen in any movie Period! #LadyBird for #Oscars

She played a loving mother and did it well. Laurie Metcalf best supporting actor in our hearts.

Laurie Metcalf’s emotion changes in that car so subtly that you don’t even realize what’s happening until it’s happened. This scene ALONE deserved an Oscar let her entire performance in this movie. Breathtaking work

so touching because this is the rawest and realest film that depicts an actual family. some people are blessed with such openly affectionate families and others are not and this film brings light to that perfectly. applause

when i saw this scene, it made me sad. i never grew up with parents so i’m not used to someone being desperate to see me after a fight. seeing this made me think what else i’ve missed in childhood. this film is incredible

I can relate to this. On the day of my senior prom, my mom locked herself in her room. I bought my own dress and because i was just a high school kid working few hours i couldn’t afford to get my nails, hair, and makeup done. So i had to do it all myself. No one helped le put on my dress pr get ready. When my date (now husband) picked me up no one was there to take pictures. We just got in his car and left. I had pictures taken at prom and till this day 10 years later she doesn’t care to see them. She used the excuse that she was tired from work. I held her job for 3 years. It wasn’t that bad.

Unfortunately, relationships are not very simple, selfishness and pride does not mean a lack of love, just an inability to properly express it.

Laurie Metcalf is heartbreaking here, but Tracy Letts facial expression at the very end kills me, too, because it's the perfect contrast between how a woman and a man deal with their emotions.
