This song perfectly illustrates lyricist Bernie Taupin's ablility to create a great story & image with his words. Every song on this album is GREAT!! You should check out, "All the Girls Love Alice" from the same album.

Love Elton's early '70's music. Everything he touched, turned to gold. You should listen to the title track off his album Madman Across the Water... he's an exceptional musician, especially with Bernie writing his lyrics. Thanks for the reaction, that was fun❤

Every song on “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” RULES! And that’s coming from a Metalhead!

I'm surprised and delighted that you went for such a deep album cut! This was the first of *many* Elton albums I've bought over the years (I now own over 50 of his albums), and the second album overall I ever bought. I wouldn't say "Social Disease" is one of the stronger tracks on the album, but the overall quality of this double LP collection is absolutely stunning.

Regarding the fade-in during the first 30-odd seconds of the track, I also thought that was an odd choice, but over time, I've come to imagine an old farmer's pickup truck from the '50s driving towards myself, playing "Social Disease" on the radio with the windows rolled down, which would explain why it got louder as the truck came closer. That was what really gave Goodbye Yellow Brick Road its character: the cinematic images each song evoked.

So glad you liked this one! It’s such a fun vibe… that song is over 50 years old but still sounds so good! Elton John has always been one of my favorite artists. This is one of the first albums I owned and I just about wore it out! 😁❤️

This is a deep dive on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and it’s a great song. The entire album is reaction worthy.

This was the first album I ever bought with my own money (I used to collect only 45s) and used to sing this at the top of my lungs until my mom made me go to my room. I was 9. Good thing, cuz she never heard "All The Young Girls Love Alice" lol.

His early stuff is really good ! Like his 1st two maybe 3 albums ! They definitely have a different sound from his later stuff ! There's one particular song on the yellow brick road album it's titled "I've seen that movie too" ... That is such a great song and it's one of his many songs that are amazing but really didn't get any radio play !? A lot of his early stuff like this song, has that honky tonk kind of sound and feel to it !

Brilliant choice guys. Elton’s music is brilliant but a little baffled he gets all the credit. Bernie Taupin’s lyrics are outstanding.
