Absolutely unbiased detailed opinion (not judgement by any means, as you don't like to judge, I believe). I am only shocked at 12 thumbs down. Why?. (as of now at 16:35 GMT/UTC). 6k or 4k how many camera buyers are professionals or advanced users, and that too video specific. For others Sony a7iii is more than enough, and still Sony won't reduce the price. Even the all capable Fuji XT-3 can't compete with it. Canon can come up with any 4k, 6k combination, but has to come cheaper than a7iii or a7riii to make any impact in the market. And mind you, Sony and Fuji cameras are in the market for some time, and having milked the market, they are in a position to drop prices on their current models, if canon/Nikon/Panasonic try to be over adventurous. But as non professional photographer we want that to happen. What is your call on that?

My favorite thing with all this, is the Canon CEO basically admitted to the missteps with the 1st gen R cameras.
But that glass (given you can afford it) is the best I've ever seen! I have the 35mm RF Lens with my EOS R and I'm able to get some incredible images. And thats the CHEAP lens.
As a Canon user who has been frustrated for a bit, IM EXCITED!

Also, Im one of those weird guys who prefers Lens Stabilization over IBIS. I get weird bouncing and warping effects with IBIS sometimes.

Great effort and channel that has a wonderful future, but when do you expect Canon R5 to be on the market?

I agree with you on the processing power for large images. As a machine vision developer I need to use a lot of software tricks to maintain processing speed, and a 45Mp image is a beast. These specs look too good to be true. The 'leaked' specs for the 'R6' at 20Mp looks more realistic.

One plausible theory was that Canon was looking at the head start of Sony and the shrinking interchangeable lens camera market. They released a statement on that last year, predicting the market shrinking. And if people are buying less of these cameras and Sony has a head start plus lot of other companies are competing, the theory goes that they are going to try to target working pros at the high end section of the market. Those that have the money and need to keep buying best of the best.

So unlike Nikon which went for f/1.8 affordable lenses Canon went for super high end RF lenses. They put all in, build 10 of these bad boys in short time and also abandoned the EF lenses, gambling it all on the mirrorless. Idea being that they are better than just about everyone in lens department, but lack in sensor and electronics department, where Sony has the edge. So they first released what their strength is, the top end lenses. And quietly work on some top end, all in mirrorless body. So by the time lenses are out, they can do their R&D, come up with some top and camera and leapfrog Nikon and maybe surpass Sony. At least that is my theory. If true, than some of the specs might be really impressive in their new top end body.

But that is just my theory. Far likley theory is that rumor sits get high own their own product and since the camera release are slow these months all the you-tubers jumped on the rumor bandwagon. And while some specs like 8K might be 8K time leaps movie made from images, and 4K 60p might be 2.0 crop etc. Mostly likley some of the rumors are true, but with various asterisks. And some are simply not true, because it would require Canon to do a quantum leap forward with their existing tech. They would have to solve thermal problems for smaller mirrorless bodies, develop totally new super power efficient processor, new amazing sensor, new long lasting battery to power it all, new EVF tech and be able to produce it all for reasonable price. All that sounds like a hard to believe jump from what they have shown so far. Therefore I remain highly skeptical.

I think first part of my theory might be closer to truth than the rumors on the specs, so we might see some big upgrade from Canon, but nothing like the rumors suggest.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. Thanks for another video.

You must not forget that 1DX III uses the Digic X processor. We don't know exactly its processing limit, but combined with CFexpress cards it might do 4K 120fps on the R5, as well as 20 fps burst shooting (possibly with a smaller buffer). As for 8K "video" (Canon Rumors said it's not raw after all), it's probably some kind of stills-based timelapse feature. But IBIS alone would make an amazing addition.

Hi Joe, Canon surely has the strenght to release such a beast of a camera but Not sure they will put all this tech in one body. Maybe they will split features between a video centric camera and a photo one, like other brands do.
I would like to see revolutions in other areas such as wireless audio monitoring, smart interface, fingerprints recognition, localization, sim card slot and so on. All this and more would make it a milestone in camera history.

Thank you for being pragmatic! I believe that Canon has the clout and engineers to create very capable cameras. I hope they 1) include two CFExpress cards; 2) improve low-light performance and dynamic range; and, 3) increased the body size. The amount of data to be moved will be greatly constrained in the absence of CFExpress/XQD cards. The heat dissipation would be faster if the camera was the size of the Canon DSLR’s or the Panasonic S-series cameras, not to mention enhanced ergonomics for those of us with larger hands. Lastly, I hope that this camera will compete or beat Sony with its low light performance.

It would be nice to have a BSI sensor, but the specs do not specifically reference it as such. However, the 61MP Sony sensor is BSI. I guess we will have to wait to see what this camera really has to offer. At this point, it has generated a lot of hype.

I haven't seen a rumored price point, but if the specs are correct, it will be expensive. Even more expensive would be an 8k monitor to actually view an 8k feed. Sony's A6000 series cameras shoot at 6k which is down sampled to 4k.The Apple iMac has a 5k screen. Anything higher res at this point would be crazy expensive. I can see it having 4k60, but knowing Canon I expect some type of cripple. The good news is, this will probably force Sony to up their game, possibly with a firmware update, and the much awaited A7S.

Thanks for the update! I've been looking forward to this announcement for over a year and will probably buy it unless it is a disappointment. Originally the rumors were 75 or 80 megapixels, which is exciting, especially if accompanied by more bit depth and dynamic range. I usually shoot high speed flash under very controlled conditions so I might actually be able to get that many megapixels with one of Canon's new RF lenses. But like you say most of the rumors are 45 megapixels now, along with some great frame rates, IBIS for low light shooting, and great video specs. I'm not a video shooter, not a low light shooter, and not an action shooter so all I want is lots of megapixels and better dynamic range and more bit depth. I'm strictly a high quality stills photographer who shoots under nice controlled conditions. I'm not a pro so I don't need any pretty good images under impossible conditions. If you've ever retouched the eyes in a full length portrait at 20 or 30 megapixels you know that it's just not enough megapixels. Also any increase of less than a doubling of megapixels is pretty much imperceptible and not a big deal. Just one of the facts of digital imaging. Canon is already at 30 megapixels so 45 megapixels is kind of a ho hum don't care. A 50% boost just won't show up. So I'm hoping that all the pressure for great video, high frame rates, IBIS and so on have not watered down the original reported goal of lots of megapixels as well as improved dynamic range. If this is the case whole thing has gone north. As in terrible icy, snowy, etc etc

Hi JC and crew..First of all, we are in the adult, intelligent, mature section of YouTube, not the clickbait, lie, misleading, JPEG vs RAW, 'is this format dead', blah blah blah, comparison twins section. If you want to view that trash, go ahead, yet we;re not doing that mess

Canon is getting my attention, and yes, I have shot Canon, among several other brands.I love what they did with this 1DXiii, and all i need is a $15k loan to get to B&H.Ok, so here we go.Now there's no reason to have 8k AND a high FPS rate unless you're using CF Express, or at least a great newer SD card. The 512 GB CF cards are currently $600 each, and of course, you will need a minimum of 4.Now the deal is, Canon wants you to be able to tether, so you can shoot and upload to an onsite device or even home to your servers. If you happen to be shooting a game or wedding of importance, you will have 4 cards at least, shoot and upload, to be edited on the fly.

I think it's a great idea to now have a body with IBIS, to pair with those EF lenses already stabilized.TWO card slots and a great battery, so Canon learned their lesson with that fiasco, along with the touch bar.I am not that amazed about the IBIS, because they had it in a $300 camera, back in 2009.Just be ready, n matter what they do, to have that computer ready, with 512GB of RAM, multiple cores, and plenty of redundant storage space, at home and at your alternative location.

Love the hip intro music.I’m going out on a cripple and state the following:Who is going to buy this?45Mpix, 8K, raw, 12 bit?I don’t need any of this in a hybrid.Workflow bog down and crippling all the way around. For that price I can buy few great cameras and a lens that rock and allow me to post/share/sell/print content.Just thinking out loud.

I know a lot of people dont like that touch bar, but it kind of feels like they are abandoning the EOS R owners with that decision.

Hi JCristina, I think it will come with 8k 4.2.0 and 8bit with a CROP, although since I heard the rumor,
I thought it probably won't come with IS!
Let's cross our fingers, but something else JCristina, I also think about what's in the FUJIFILM X-T4, which has everyone in love with what it will bring! ...that is going to be shocking for many people!!!

Guys, 8k 30fps will sap all consumer PCs. There is no point in giving a camera that will have no mass appeal. As for pros and the Olympics, call me crazy, but that’s the 1DP mark III

Sony A7R IV & Nikon Z7 have IBIS with large megapixel sensors. Canon did confirm they're working on IBIS. A Canon executives said they do have an 8K capable camera on their EOS-R road map. So we will see that in the future, but I don't expect it to be this soon. I expect this to be 8K timelapse (like Nikon D850).

Sure Canon do cripple their cameras, but they may have no choice with people switching to other brands. Back in 2008, the 5D2 was revolutionary as the first DSLR with 1080p video, so maybe Canon will lay down the "cripple hammer" and go back to bringing us "revolutionary" products.
