This is something that probably just me and my sister found funny, but we changed the model to a cat miku model to see how it would work with the pinky thing, and her pinky just poked out of the cat paw in the last scene.

A lot of people seem confused about the implications of this song. The translations for it vary but I think that this particular one is confusing some people, so I'll explain to the best of my ability.

The girls in this video are not singing to each other. Blue-haired Miku is a prostitute, and brown-haired is a modern day schoolgirl. In the Edo period (pre-Tokyo) part of modern day Tokyo was a prostitute town - Yoshiwara - which was filled with brothels. Young girls (children) would be sold by their families to brothels for a sum of money, which would become the girls debt. The girls would eventually become prostitutes and have to work constantly to try to keep on top of debt, but it was an uphill battle with them having to spend money on makeup and fashionable clothing to attract high class customers. Because of this, it was virtually impossible to leave the brothel on one's own. Instead, girls relied on customers buying them (paying off their debt) to take them as wives or mistresses.


Because this was the only way to leave the brothel, if you fell for a customer who didn't have enough money to pay off your debt, you would not be able to be with them. So (supposedly) prostitutes would cut off their pinky fingers (which was where the string of fate was believed to be tied) and give them to their lovers as a way of ensuring they would end up together. The brown-haired girl in this video is romanticizing the idea of giving your beloved your pinky (your fate) as a way of affirming you would be together forever, and decides to do so herself. It's possible she is also a prostitute but I don't personally think that's the point.

i just realized something while playing project diva mega mix, for this song, if you finished the song but don’t clear it, it’ll show blue hair miku at the end, but if you finish the song and clear it, you’ll get brown hair miku with her pinky cut off, idk if other people know this but i thought it was cool

Personally, I interpret the song as the inner monologue of a girl who has an unhealthy obsession with a certain boy. Her persona is the miku with the teal hair and her actual self is the brown hair. She has had obsessions with other boys in the past but has found the new object of her possessive fantasy. She would give anything for him, soul, mind, heart, and flesh. The way that the angles in the pv pose normal miku are from a low angle which can symbolize power or possession while persona miku is shown at a straight forward angle to show her perception of her actions (to her these actions seem completely rational while the compositions of the other miku show us it isnt). I also believe that the shot that shows two goldfish instead of one is a hint that there are two sides to this person, one which is real and the other, a persona they wish to conceal. Anyway thank you for coming to my ted talk. (just my interpretation btw, not canon)

Someone else pointed out how finger-cutting was seen among Edo-period prostitutes, but there's another aspect I wanted to bring up: the Japanese term for pinky promise, "yubikiri, " literally translates to "finger-cutting." It was used as punishment in the Yakuza; if you broke a promise, you had your pinky cut off. While in hindsight I do think that the prostitute angle was probably what the producer was going for, the song definitely gives off yandere vibes whether or not you understand the lyrics and the fact that the girl is willing to cut off _her own finger_ as a "gesture of love" definitely feels like an implicit threat to her crush.
