Hey Sarah, this is my first time watching and am wanting to play more with my gouache. Only have done a few paintings and am frustrated with it probably because I’m coming from regular watercolor use. Originally acrylics. I see you barely use water. I realize I probably won’t get an answer back as I sounds like you are going after some fine goals which inspires me. You’re just what I needed to find here on YouTube. I’m a regular searching for beginner to intermediate although I’ve been painting for 20 years. Not regularly. Hearing about the stories and illustrations you want to do and well…. So much more to say but I admire your interests and should checkout your vlog. You make this look easy and it looks like u put out way more from the tube than I do … perhaps bc I’m thinking watercolor. I’ll try your way. Much luck and I want to jump ahead to see what you’re up to but need to watch more here before you progress even more.

i put stiff tubes into a tray of water for a few hours with the top slightly loosened. it will suck a bit of moisture back in.

Landscape painting feels like "ez mode" to me because I'm a portrait painter, though I don't nail the values and shapes 1/10th so well as you do. It just feels so much easier because precision is nearly irrelevant in comparison to making someone recognizable. I'm so excited to see your MerMay pieces
