World Heritage Day, celebrated every year on April 18th, aims to raise awareness about UNESCO World Heritage Sites and promote sustainable tourism. The idea of this day was proposed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982 and was officially recognized by UNESCO in 1983. Each year, the day is observed with a specific theme, and in 2025, the theme is “Heritage in Danger Due to Disasters and Conflicts: 60 Years of Action and Lessons Learned by ICOMOS.” India plays a significant role in the global heritage initiative, contributing 43 World Heritage Sites, including cultural, natural, and mixed heritage landmarks. Among these, India boasts 35 cultural, 7 natural, and 1 mixed heritage site.
