What you failed to mention is that if you're using a bash environment then editing the .zshrc file will not work, if you're using a bash environment you would need to edit the .bashrc file. Being that you can choose between either or, I thought it apt to mention.
EDIT- you can find out which environment you're running by using the command echo $SHELL
