STATIC Stretching (Should you do it?)

What is Static Stretching? Does Stretching Impact Force Production? Does Stretching Before Strength Training Help Or Hurt Muscle Strength And Hypertrophy?

In this video we’re going to cover static stretching

Static stretching is great for mobility work when trying to correct compensations as part of your prehab routine, especially when done at other points in the day.

It can also be a great cool down to prep your body for the next training session.

Unless you have issues with range of motion or compensations, it may be best to keep more dynamic stretches for your warm up.

However, if you really do struggle with activation, potentially stretching that opposing muscle or tight hip flexor prior to your deadlift or hip thruster can help you better activate your glutes.

When do you sleep with all this content (podcast, emails, YouTube, IG, FB, etc.)?!

Not complaining at all, but amazed at how you're like superwoman!

Such an important topic for me. I have tight shoulders, hips, and hamstrings. The editing and info in this video are top-tier.

As a Yogi I love static stretching.. The more space in between the Vertebrae the better!

I do stretching 3 on 1 off for almost a year now. It's just amazing how far I've come when looking back. Any stretching is better than doing none I my opinion. Highly recommended if you are over 50.

Well done! I often hear the argument of ditching static stretching to relieve "tight" muscle due to the belief that a tight muscle is usually a weak muscle, and strengthening work is better for long term relief. However, I've notice that the combination works the best and people enjoy the stretching.

I usually start my workout with various dynamic moves to warm up my muscles and lubricate the joints especially if it's gonna be tough like Hiit or functional then finish with static stretches not exceeding the proper time for each muscle..I highly appreciate the topics you talk about lately..God bless you Cort🙏💟

Thank you for the information. I try to stay away from static stretch as I always believed that an increase range of motion without added strength is just creating a weak point asking for injury. I do dynamic stretches and loosening up before doing speed repeats when I run then I do deeper dynamic stretches after my training session. Needless to say that I am not that mobile but I never got injured in my training which I do mainly for pleasure and health reason. Moving is a stretch so I never saw the need to stretch on top of that. I am very old. Thank you for sharing! ❤️

This is what I’ve always thought despite what the new mainstream info is pushing .. and honestly like the entire population is suffering from limited range of motion and weekend muscles caused from over sitting and staring at their phones ..you go into a workout with these conditions you’ll strengthen your forward neck in the the forward position and you’ll strengthen anterior pelvic tilt which is attached to about every muscle in the body ..

Hi Cori! I also do static stretching in my warm up to help prevent injuries including before running. Right now they're helping me recover from overdoing my last jogging session too (mainly tight quads). Going down stairs is still a really painful ordeal!😅 So my answer to your question is yes, I should do it! I find them very useful, if applied correctly. Your explanation was very clear and comprehensive. Thank you, Coach and happy Mayday!👍

I stretch between sets because I feel it helps me workout longer. I stretch before workout if it's HIIT or Cardio workout that day. I stretch after each workout to help with the health benefits- balance, flexibility, and circulation.

Good video. Finally a video on stretching not only focus on strength, speed for top athletes. I'm done ss my whole life. Been doing gymnastics, yoga, power lifting and martial art. I had a accident about 13 years ago in my lower back ( not from training). Had twice a lower back surgery. Doing my ss every day keep me functioning. I'm soon 61 and still can do the split/ side split like Van Damme :) where I live we also have winter that make our bodies more "stiff" than in other part of the world. Thank you for a good educating video :)

Another fantastic video; I always learn _something_ every time I take a peek. (Although as a longtime yogini, 'static stretching' is, essentially yoga...something that, after 45+ years of fitness, I can say should be the #1 element to constructing an effective regimen.)
