many soundcards offer the option to loop back audio onto your headphones from your mic. there is also software where you can insert a delay for this effect

this is awesome, i love the "gun" version (directional speaker and mic) :P. Been told that most radio presenters can overcome this due to the common feedback from phone calls and stuff, I seem to be mostly immune to it as well :)

this is something you can try at home on your computer. quite a few freeware audio applications can be made to do this at whatever their delay is.

I'm just gonna list a few, you figure out the rest. audacity, virtualdub, winamp, xmplay, modplug player, pd-extended, buzz machines. caution: some of these need extra plugin downloads to enable playback of your mic.

if you use voice chat in tf2, garrysmod or similar, put voice_loopback 1 in the console and have fun.

There's an app called Speech Jammer on the App Store that does exactly this if anyone's interested.

I actually deal with this on an almost daily basis at my job doing telephone technical support when the customer has me on speakerphone. I've actually gotten used to it and can talk through it without noticing.

I knew this before SpeechJammer with PS3 Voice Changer. You leave open the Voice Changer and talk with the mic and the delay will make you this same way. Try it, thumbs up this comment so people can see!

Funny thing about this is that it doe the opposite thing for stutterers. The delay allows them to speak normally.

Scientists used something kind of like this to cure people of stuttering by altering the delay their brain hears things at.

This happened to me, but it was accidentally. I was playing Minecraft PS3 Edition, and using my phones mic to talk (voice recorder app). In short, it didn't work. However, I got delayed feedback of myself, and I stuttered worse than that one dog from Homeward Bound II. I thought it was working so I continued to try to talk, needless to say I failed, but it was a fun/funny experience, especially since I had a friend over. We laughed like hyenas. I am a man of many words, and many more similes. Nuff Said.
