Richard is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors, PickUp On South Street, Panic In The Streets, No Way Out, My Pal Gus, Night In The City, Road House all of those films done in the 50's . What a spectacular decade for any actor, this may be his best performance . Widmark went on to show his versatility playing a prosecuting attorney in the military drama Judgement At Nuremberg. Great actor, stellar career .

Masterpiece. One of the top 10 noirs and one of the great artistic triumphs in cinema. Widmark is absolutely brilliant. Deniro's performance in that horrendous remake doesn't even come close (But Deniro hasn't been an important actor for at least 25 years).

Gregorius (Stanislaus Zbyszko) actually was a championship wrestler of the early-20th century. If I'm not mistaken, his role was initially offered to another similarly aged retired wrestler in George Hackenschmidt.
