This should have been his first clue. You don’t sleep with someone twice then have dinner with them if it’s just a one night stand. This is what you do at the start of a relationship.

The look on his face is priceless when she asked Dan "So what are you doing here?" That is a really excellent question and he used Alex and she wasn't going to take it and she went crazy and she had borderline Personality disorder and she spied on the family throws up in the woods b/c Dan had something that she didn't have a family. Alex Forrest was one crazy woman but then Dan was even crazy too to sleep her a second time and have this affair and go back to his normal life. She wasn't going to let that happen...

This scene is crucial to understand why Alex developed an irrational obsession with Dan that could have never gotten resolved peacefully.

She has a borderline personality disorder and he inadvertently planted a big trigger by opening up about his father taking him to see Madame Butterfly and being scared. If it just remained superficial in conversations and sex, Alex would have quickly forgotten about him and moved on after the weekend.

A married friend of mine got caught up in a similar situation a year or so before this movie was released. There was no kid to kidnap or rabbit to cook but she vandalized his house and car. Showed up continually at his office. Almost ran over him….. Called his wife. Who completely lost it and fired a gun at him….I warned him. I saw the affair brewing…. Don’t do it I said…When this movie came out it was truly a holy @#$& moment. The wife and the mistress both showed up at my house at different times looking for him..I ended up putting a restraining order on both of them. Told him to get lost. This bs went on for a while… my career had me transferred out of state. I readily accepted…

Alex asked the 24 mullion dollar question after Dan said he was lucky being married and a father: What are you doing here? He immediately started to gaslight her. His wife, Beth, never inquired why he strayed when he appeared so happy. This was a major omission in the film. By not having Dan vocalise his reasons for committing adultery, this kept him a victim, rather than the bad guy that he was. The truth was he thought he could get away with it as his wife and daughter were away for the weekend. It made me wonder how many other times he cheated and betrayed his family. Alex`s actions surprised him. His whole reaction was: Wait a minute! This isn`t according to the cheaters` handbook.

People have affairs because they want to see themselves through a new person’s eyes. When you live with a partner they eventually become like a sibling or worse, a parent. You just end up becoming burdened by each other, that’s why people want the excitement of discovering new relationships and new sexual experiences.

I've always aske that question: "Why did he have the affair?" He never answered her nor was it ever brought up in the movie.

After this conversation, he should have left. Realizing she wanted more then he could give, he should have done both of them a favor and split

To get a dinner with the cousin, but not have noodles enough to have the pie on the head. But the music is the noise to make the atmosphere dark like a cofee black no wax for shampoo and wax.
