What is a central Vacuum and how does it work? aka central vac or whole house vacuum

The hose and power attachment are much lighter than most vacuums that have similar cleaning suction. It is easier to move around, to use on stairs, etc. All of the noise is in the basement or garage where the main unit is installed. House pets and children don't have to deal with as loud of a vacuum motor sound in their space.

The biggest thing in our family is that regular vacuums process air flow with suction, then through a filter, then back out. As you are cleaning your home, the vacuum is spreading some dust and pollen back into your space. Even the best vacuums have this issue. The central vacuum removes everything through suction directly into the system and back to the main unit. The unit is housed away from the normal living space. The unit is large enough for better dust and sediment settlement and bigger filters. Thus, there is less dust that gets back into the air, and it's not getting ejected back into the living space.

Mom's home had all of the hose ports. But it also had a door in the cabinet kickplate in the kitchen. Use a kitchen broom to sweep up a spill, accumulated flour during bread making, etc. Instead of bending over to use a dustpan and an open trashcan, you sweep everything over to the door. Use your toe or heel to press the button next to the door. It pops open the flap, to allow you to sweep your pile into the opening that is actively suctioning everything as if you were using the hose. That add on is a game changer!

A super wealthy family I was a nanny for had one and it was very nice. I do think it was offered as an option in one of our home builds (I think it was a townhome actually) but we declined.

I have the outlets for the central vac, but I’ve never been able to find the hose or the canister. I’ve lived here over 5 years, so maybe I should look harder! 😂😂😂
