In TW there are at least two routes for the attackers to cross the water, and one of them is just a low water where they can walk across.

You can actually cross over there, the cursor shows a cross because you can’t position a unit directly in the river. You can make them cross the river but you can’t have them immobile in the water.

This feels far more like the battle of Granicus. The Macedonian phalanx had engaged the main Persian army across the river. The Persian army was so occupied they didn’t see Alexander and his Companions cross a quarter mile down the river then ran up their flank and broke the army
