On no circumstances should a man carry the woman's surname. By the way it's only in Latin America do women keep their surnames because it's their culture but the west take their husband's surname. In Latin America, when the couple bear children, the child takes the man's surname and the wife's surname is added as a second surname but the official name of the child is his first name and the father's surname. Some women, put the husband's surname. For example Julia Fernandez marries Jose Ornelas and when they marry, she becomes Julia Fernandez de Ornelas, meaning Julia Fernandez of Ornelas. They do that because it's their culture. But the people on this video are talking about misplaced priorities. When you divorce, you go back to your maiden name as it should be. Talking from people that I've seen and lived with...Latin America and the US, Canada, etc. Even if your father is the richest man, and offered me the money, I can't change my last name for the woman's maiden name. It doesn't work any where....my girlfriend who is Canadian and the only child of the parents, no way are we changing name for her father's and neither am I taking the father's name. you all should be making arguments from an informed perspective. it is western culture to change a womans name to her husband name. it was never our culture until colonialism. please do your research. And then stop quoting the bible wrongly to suit your preference. the bible said therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife and they shall become one flesh. the man does the leaving and cleaving not the woman. a woman shouldnt be forced to take her husband name. she should have a choice.

It's not really a big deal. If a woman wants to keep our hyphenate she should go ahead. But them have to start doing away with traditional weddings... or weddings in general. And also ẹru iyawo and bride price. What about buying rings? Why do we need wedding rings?
