The video discusses the common challenges faced by non-native English speakers and offers solutions to overcome them.

1. **Passive vs. Active Skills**:
- **Problem**: Many learners have more developed passive skills (listening and reading) than active skills (speaking and writing). This is because most educational systems emphasize passive skills, and it's easier to find content for listening and reading than opportunities for speaking.

- **Solution**: Improve speaking by enhancing writing skills. Writing helps in producing the language and creating sentences. By focusing on writing, one can better express themselves in speaking. It's also beneficial to write down new vocabulary and learn it by heart.

2. **Unnaturalness of Speaking a Foreign Language**:
- **Problem**: Speaking a foreign language can feel unnatural, especially if one isn't used to pronouncing new words or imitating a different accent.

- **Solution**: Practice saying words out loud daily. Use techniques like shadowing, where you repeat sentences after a native speaker. This helps in improving pronunciation and accent. Listening to the language also aids in understanding how it should sound, boosting confidence in speaking.

3. **Focus on Perfection**:
- **Problem**: Some learners are overly focused on perfection, leading to hesitation in speaking. They might spend too much time thinking about the best grammar structures or vocabulary, resulting in an inability to communicate smoothly.

- **Solution**: Prioritize communication over perfection. It's essential to connect with others and speak fluently, even if it means making some mistakes. Basic vocabulary can be sufficient for effective communication. The key is to engage and connect with people without overthinking.

Helpful for every B1-level learner. The more you write and practice the shadowing technique, the more fluent you are in speaking and expressing yourself. Lovely, thank you.

Thanks for sharing. These work for every language. I am a native English speaker but my objective is to learn German, Japanese, Russian, Korean, Ukranian and Portuguese. I have learned a little about each through self-study and studied German at university for a while. I'll apply the writing/journaling tip for sure. Thanks again.

EDIT: Let me add, for those learning English: Native English speakers *love* foreign accents and even misplaced words. For instance when a German says "are you going now to school, " where it should be "are you going to school now?" We love hearing that sort of thing, never be afraid of being judged, we enjoy talking to non-native speakers, especially Continentals.

I think the best way to learn English it's to speak every single day .what I do to resolve this problem I go in front of the mirror and i talk to myself about a topic I choose .I train my brain to think in English. I'm so glad because I can learn in spite I'm alone .but it's better to share a conversation but here where I live it isn't possible because people doesn't speak English. Young lady you speak English very well and you have a gracious accent. I'm French and i love to speak English. I would like to find people to talk to them . Thank you for your advices .RICHARD ALVENTOZA

Can someone tell me does shadowing technique just use to enhance pronounciation? Doesn't it help to improve our fluency?

Or spend your money booking classes or being in the loop about streaming. One class a week might be worth talking aloud alone. You need to know, how your speaking is developed properly

I am fluent in English and Spanish, I spoke with people personally and now I speak by whatsapp. The problem is that I am not evolving in level, I'm intermediate almost upper-intermediate and I want to achieve this level. I think it will take some months or one year, I took 2 years to become fluent in English. What do I need to improve my English?
