Great video! thank you for sharing your solution to a problem so many are facing. I have ordered my very own mini displayport to displayport cable. I got the 10ft option so heres hoping theres no lag hope everything goes well.

I think it works only for 2013 late or later. I have a A1398 2013 early. I can get either HIDPI or 60Hz. but not both.

I just got a 4K LG monitor and thought I would mention that you need to make sure the mini DP to DP cable is either bi-directional or directional in the way you need (from mini DP to the full size DP). My mini DP to DP cable is the OPPOSITE way apparently but still works fine for my imac thunderbolt docking station to 1440p 60hz screen. 4K 60hz is just a different beast.

Thank you for this. So much bad info on the net, turns out HDMI was the 30hz issue. Your video solved all of it!

Hi Dylan, sorry to ask a question which looks has been asked already, but I am a little confused. I have an early 2013 MacBook Pro 15". I just bought a new Samsung UE590 4k monitor 28" (3840x2160) didn't even think about this problem!!! On my MacBook hardware selection, under "graphics/displays" it show two things - "Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU, built-in" and "NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M GPU, PCIe". Will your solution work for me? Have i given you enough information? I've scoured the places i know to look online but nothing makes sense. Many thanks in advance, James

Thank you! Been googling for a solution to display 4k at 60hz with my mbp 2015e, and kept getting answer of not supporting, no one talk about using display port instead. Thank you so much for this short and informative video. Sadly my mbp 2015 is 13" one.

Tried this with my 15-inch Macbook Pro Mid 2014 (Intel Iris Pro ) and it worked pretty well.
The only issue is that fans kick off more often.

Dylan Bass,
Thanks so much for the great video! 10-21-18
I've always used HDMI or whatever, but this is the first time I'll be using this configuration. I hope to see some improvement.

Thanks man, I did HDMI->HDMI and HDMI-> mini DP and both of them are sh*t. Hopefully DP to mini DP would work
