The Future of Breast Cancer Treatment Webinar Oct 2020

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which raises awareness of prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. This webinar will focus on the advancements in treating breast cancer and in particular, sub types of breast cancer which have poorer outcomes. We’ll discuss emerging breast cancer drug delivery treatment, the research outlook and a personal journey with breast cancer.
Dr Kara Vine-Perrow – Senior researcher at IHMRI Dr Kara Vine-Perrow is a senior researcher at IHMRI with a research focus on developing more effective drug delivery methods to improve the treatment of diseases. Kara has an interest in treating cancers, in particular pancreatic and breast cancer through implantable devices.
Clinical Professor Morteza Aghmesheh – Medical Oncologist at ISLHD Professor Morteza Aghmesheh is a senior staff specialist medical oncologist at Illawarra and Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centres. Mori has a particular interest in cancer drug development and delivery, clinical trials and biobanking of cancer tissues.
Ashleigh Hope – IHMRI Honours student Ashleigh Hope is a medical biotech Honours student at UOW and IHMRI. Ashleigh is a member of Dr Kara Vine-Perrow’s incredible team and the particular project she is supporting is aiming to find better ways to treat triple negative breast cancer.
Dr Kimberley Davis – breast cancer survivor Dr Kimberley Davis obtained her PhD in 2015 from UOW for her work investigating tumour cell immortality. In December 2016, Kimberley was diagnosed with Triple Positive, Stage III Breast Cancer. Kimberley understands the importance of new therapeutic developments, including how existing treatments have benefited her own health outcomes.
