It is amazing how much a household can save simply being mindful. I have noticed my children are better 'trained' to turn off lights when they leave a room than some of the adults I know!

When I'm away from home for more than a day, I adjust the thermostat to save on heating/ air conditioning costs. A programmable thermostat is brilliant. I unplug some items that aren't needed - like the clock and TV in the guest room.

To add to 6: if you do use a dryer, use dryer balls. They have cut my drying time in half! Also, if you are doing multiple load of laundry back to back, wait til both loads are done being washed before you dry. My dryer can easily hold 3x the clothing as my washer.

I use app-controlled bulbs in my house. They work via Bluetooth. I swap them off as I move from room to room and back on only as needed. I also switch off power strips to anything that isn’t actively in use when I’m not home

Most electric plans in the US are not like a cell phone plan. I cannot change my electricity provider because I only have one option.

We have solar panels and that helps a lot. We don't have central AC, just window units. I love all these tips!

My energy saving tip. See if your utility company does Energy Audits. Our Utility company offers Energy Audits and will do home visits and suggest things like where you could add additional insulation to your home to reduce energy use. Having a programmable thermostat that makes it easy to turn down the temperature when you are away or at night when you are sleeping is also a good way to save energy.

We are lucky and have some gas appliances (our stove/oven, dryer, and water heater). This saves us a lot of money. The next time we replace our water heater we are going to get an instant hot gas water heater which will also save us money on gas, but hoping that is not for several years. Also, something we've started doing is using a bit of Biz in our loads of laundry. I don't use their recommended amount, but just a tablespoon or so in most loads, and about 2-3 tablespoons for towels and sheets. I find the laundry is fresher and smells better, it seems that stains are removed better, and I just generally feel like it helps kill off any germs that cause odor. I've found since I started using it, my laundry is much fresher. I also found buying the large package at Target is much less expensive than the smaller package at my grocery. Just a thought for those using cold water washing.

I was waiting for #6! I was raised in Spain so I love hanging clothes, I became the hippy in the neighborhood because of it in my CA neighborhood.
Plus I’m married to a wookie so the heater is hardly ever engaged, I look like I’m bundled up for a Canadian winter whenever it’s below 76degrees ; )

I dry our laundry outside, then soften them in my dryer for just a few minutes, at least $70 saved per month for our family of 3

First: nice video and good tips! If everyone does these, that would be great.
Some notes: the ozone layer is not affected by your energy use (or by green house gasses in general), it was depleted mainly by CFCs, which used to be in spray cans. (To combat climate change reducing green house gasses IS important though, however the ozone layer has nothing to do with climate change - the ozone layer is about protecting us from harmful UV radiation.)
Also the calculation of how much power your appliances use is a little more complicated than you make it out to be: your power bill will show how much electricity you have used in kWh (kilo Watt hours), while the label on your appliances will tell you how much W (Watt) they require. These units are not the same and are not interchangeable.
The unit for energy is Joules. Watt is Joules per second, and a Watt hour is therefore 3600 Joules. A kWh is 1000x a Wh, thus: 3, 600, 000 Joules.
To calculate how much energy each appliance uses you need to multiply the number of seconds it is usually powered on with the power (W) on it's label; then you'll get the number of Joules it uses.

The electric co changed our meter several times after we moved here. Once when hubby put an exhaust fan in the attic, again when we changed to all compact fluorescent bulbs. they thinking we are tinkering with the meters. We are now replacing those With LED's a few at a time. Maybe they won't notice since it won 't be all at once. I keep all my old electric bills so I can compare to the year before.😉 oh no, I believe I just admitted to being a hoarder.

The biggest crime is subsidizing electromobils.
My plan is: I gave notice to my electricity company. This will save me 8 euros (9, 83 USD) on basic fee every month. The electricity comes out of 2 solar panels which is not cheap and a crime against the enviroment as well. But as long woman are allowed to have more than 1 child nothing will change to the better anyway: Less people more resources per capita and less envriomental impact alltogether..
