That first album, man. It has a special quality that i think, even if the Beatles had never done another one afterwards, it would still be a hidden gem, worth every penny. It has a special quality to it. The songs are strong, powerful, kind of grimy and ramshackle, even the production. It reminds me of a specific time in my life a few years ago when i really spun it constantly, but also gives me real strong impressions of the early 60's (a decade I wasn't around for as a thought in anyone's head but still feel like I've lived through and treasure), it is so of the time and yet utterly timeless.

A good video about a lesser known song that deserves to be heard.

Misery was one of several songs that were totally unavailable after 1964. Only album you could find it on was introducing the Beatles on the veejay label. In 64 Capitol won exclusive USA rights to all Beatles music, and the following year veejay went bankrupt and out of business due to their owner's gambling problem. So the album & its derivatives where you can find this made misery impossible to find, and very obscure to the typical US Beatles fan. When Capitol finally released the stuff from the first UK album, they left out misery, there's a place, & even from me to you. The latter became available on the red album in 72, the other 2 remained in limbo till the CD era

The Beatles was one of the greatest bands of all time. Their sound was like no others before.

I like the McCartney-Lennon credits. I have a Thank You Girl single with that. And From Me To You too. Having that on early Beatles albums is valuable to me.

Being an early release, I always thought it was a cover tune.

Nino Tempo and April Stevens (the singers of Deep Purple) would have also made great cover artists of Misery.

GIVE THAT SONG ANY DAY.
