Cuphead : How to Beat Robot Boss

This bastard was the complete opposite.

By far my least favorite boss in Cuphead.

Here's a tip:

Right when he shoots his head out, use you bomb morph and you can skip the whole 2nd phase

I am a player who took about 5 hours to beat Grim Matchstick, and I beat this boss (Dr. Kahl's Robot) in 1 and a half. Here is the strategy I learned:

Note: I did not use my secondary fire (mini bombs), and I saved up my power meter to use the large bomb.

Phase 1:
- Immediately go down to the bottom up close to the lowest point of the Robot where the flying things come out of. Those will eventually take up the screen, so I take out those first. While doing so, I go close up to lure the large beam closer to the boss, so I can back up easily if need be. I take out the pink laser as fast as it spawns.
- Once the bottom part is broken, I attack the middle in the same fashion. I go up close to lure the large beam there, then back up right before it fires. I make sure the black bombs become my number 1 priority and shoot them when they are at the bottom. I then continue to chip away at the middle until it breaks. I then have a full meter to take out the large beam with using one large bomb and no more than a second of regular fire.
Phase 1.5:
- After all three parts are broken, and the nuts and bolts begin firing, I stay towards the rear and fire at the heart. When the bombs come, I take them out if I can, while still focusing on dodging the nuts and bolts. The only time I shrink and move closer to the right side (heart/nuts and bolts) is when the magnet or arm comes in. I then retreat to the rear and continue firing at the heart when they leave. I find it much easier to dodge the nuts and bolts when I am father back because they separate further.

Phase 2:
- I rotate in a counter-clockwise circle during this phase. When the robot head is below me, I loop around it and fire what I can behind it. Then I move towards the top and face it head on until it comes too close, then I escape back to the middle/bottom. I can only do this every other time the robot head circles around though, because by then, there are three bombs on screen. I then lure the first two bombs to the bottom right of the screen, then circle up and around to the middle where the third joins. I then shrink and move to the bottom, allowing the bombs to explode in the middle. Now I have another opportunity to shoot the robot head. Rinse and repeat until he falls off the screen.

Phase 3:
- This phase is ridiculously scary at first, but I did manage to find a way that makes it much more manageable. Here is the key to safety: ONLY SHOOT WHEN THERE ARE NO WALLS. When there are walls, escape to the top or bottom (wherever the opening is) and remain small during this part. Once past the wall, become large and fire at the boss when you only have to worry about the crystals. Once the walls come back, return your focus to survival. Also, o recommend saving up your large bomb for the tiny windows of opportunity when there are no walls nor crystals for 1-2 seconds.

I understand if this doesn't help, because it's still super hard, and I have no video footage. However, since it helped me, I wanted to share in hopes that it might help others who are struggling.

I just beat Cala Maria with his other tutorial and beat this guy too. Screw this guy. Most unenjoyable boss and the final phase is just torture.

I really hate a lot of these bosses. Some of them aren’t even fair. They’re like “How many different projectiles can you pay attention to at one time.”

This boss gave me the most trouble. It forces you to try and keep full HP to deal with the final phase.

The first phase was so rough for me but with your strategy, it passed by in literal seconds. And I'm proud to say I just beat him today! Onwards to King Dice!

This is the last boss I've got to do on the third island. There's so much happening on screen that it's hard to concentrate. Thanks for the guides though. You've been a lifesaver on my second run-through (I rage quit halfway through my first run on the start of the third island). Keep up the good work.
