For clarity’s sake, when he says “2 plates” he is referring to 225lbs.

I can do two plates either side. They are 5kg each but it counts..

Overhead Pressed 190lbs cleaned from the floor once upon a long a$$ time ago.
A guy in the gym used clean from the floor and press 135lbs for 5 sets reps. You just knew that he was not to be fvcked with he was probably in his 50s and hard as fvkin nails played some basketball and was tough af on them young boys. He changed my routine.
Standing overhead press became an obsession for me. Set the safety bar in the squat cage at shoulder height and worked that barbell press from the naked 45lb Olympic bar until I could press 190 also work the snatch from the floor the same way then put the two together for 190lb one rep max. But the endurance for the 135lb lift for 10 reps is beastly.
I never reached his level.
He continues to live rent free in my brain for the past 20 or more years.
I tell my son to do this exercise is he does nothing else .. that and judo.

I'm almost able to press 135 at 154 body weight. When I started, I could only do 80 lbs. Almost a milestone for me.

Im currently at 95lbs for 4x8 behind the neck press.
I want that 1 plate as a good first bench mark

When you do 75 kgs or more with a strict overhead press you are real strong. 125 kgs or beyond is crazy. I'm a big guy, lifted seriously for a decade, getting from 80 to 100 kgs for reps took me years and years.

Alot of truth in this. When I could do this (long time ago now 🤣) other guys in the gym would take notice. I would shoot for 3-5 reps, would always get someone say something along the lines of "thats alot of weight" with a fist bump thrown in

do that as seated if you dont have good core or technic, your lower back will thank you :)
