❓Let me know: Did you work in agile projects? And if offered, would you bust your butt working for Tesla/SpaceX?

Award for GM Mary Bara? Most dishonest CEO among CEOs for legacy automakers?

The more I hear Jim Farley talk the more I like him. Down to earth, no BS, realistic view of Ford and their situation. Total opposite of B.S. Barra.

GM pays shareholders every penny they make and then waves the “We’ll lose JOBS/VOTERS” Flag, if the Taxpayers don’t “Loan” us some money.

Thank you for this! As an auto engineer, we often get played with as a pawn in these companies, gaslit, and not told the truth. You are really speaking truth to power here. America does not want to become a salesman of chinese goods. Boycott GM.

As an GM engineer, I lived through this era, and predicted its bankruptcy. Barra was known within GM as being a "presenter" which meant she was just a talking head, and shill. She did look good. The power was always the lawyers and beancounters behind the BarraOZ curtain. Buick was one of the ones which went first to China, because at that time it was viewed as a "premium or deluxe" vehicle, without having the cost of a Cadillac. That worked great, and brought in money. I still have a 1995 GMC Vandura Heavy, the last year of the "big iron" vans. It is easy to repair, substitute parts are readily available, and I got it one-year used for only 15, 500$usd. It is the most valuable utility and vacation vehicle ever (with beds), and with added Positraction. Our family has used this vehicle now for almost everything, for 30 years, and it still runs great. Also easy to add modern improvements into it, just bolt in, or glue onto the durable and metal surfaces.

GM, under Mary Barra’s leadership, has indeed sold out to China. As a 31 year GM retiree, I’m sorely disappointed in their leadership. It’s time for a change at the top!

GM's history here simultaneously exposes the danger of planning per quarter - no long term perspective, and the hazardous choice to empower MBA's to run technical companies. GM and BOEING are reaping the results of letting MBA's running the company

Wow! Not too many people are putting in the work these days. Mainstream media only editorializes without any homework put in. The depth here is appreciated!

When I saw the title I thought, "Here we go. Another superficial report a la some Wall St Analysis trying to promote some short term thinking". But NO! Many, many THANKS for a well researched piece. Probably the best I and my small team of part time Auto Analysists (we specialise in BEV's and spend a lot of time evaluating the Chinese Auto Companies and their NEV's.
Very few Analysists have ever produced an indepth report such as this video. Thank you again.
We invest in Disruptive Techs and Alternative Energy. That led us to Tesla Motors in 2003 (before Elon was involved!) Yes, it's not just about who builds what, where and when. But future plans and objectives and what the Management teams are doing in a Company. A Top Down/Bottom up approach. Not simply Fundamental Analysis which Wall St Analysists seem to concentrate on, all short term. I've mentioned a few of the details you mentioned, to other people and they laughed.
I grew up with the Ford Vs Holden (GM) battles "Down under", before the Japanese entered the picture.
So I watched carefully what the Chinese were doing and I didn't have to be Einstein to work out their long term approach. It's been fascinating to watch. Oh, yes, we are huge Tesla Fans and investors. Plus, watch for when the Chinese battle to buy the dregs of Companies from Stellantis and Stellantis implodes. Just for their "Names and reputations". Alpha Romeo. Also watch for the huge battle that will eventuate for Dailmer! Chinese interests already own just over 20%. I've always thought that GM would eventually be purchased by Chinese interests but, of course, the US Govt will block that. LOL. Cheers.

Ford & GM fought seatbelts for decades at the cost of over 100k lives.
They did it to save $15 per car…

Chinese requirements for joint ventures was always to aquire either in manufacturing or product technology.
Ford and gm should have built a ev/ battery technology hub in Detroit .... problem ofcause are unions that hate ev and a city that is still hostile to business and research.
We are our own biggest enemy.

A GM CEO once said, "We used to be a car company that occasionally lent people money. Now were a bank, that sometimes makes cars". Believe it or not, Ford is the ONLY US car maker to race and win at Le Mans, World Rally, and F1. When Ford goes over seas they use their name, when GM goes over seas, they buy other companies. Ford's so great, that they make movies about their exploits. Just look at, (Ford vs Ferrari). GM doesn't know who or what it is. Thanks.

As a Bow Tie guy for life, it saddens me to see GM failing, not only at car making but, American car making. That said, I wont be buying any Chevys newer than 2006. I have a few but, could use a few more.

"They don't care about making money TODAY." The fundamental problem for America competing with an Asian society. America has always been the most impatient society about returns on investment, because our culture was built upon capitalism. A pure capitalist will always be ready to abandon one investment to go after another one with faster returns. Older societies adopted capitalism as a tool, but their values about long-term thinking still remained.

You know, when I saw the "horrible, immoral, pass tesla" stuff I thought, *_"OMG, more clickbait"_*
Then I watched... now I'm absolutely, completely *_disgusted by GM_* - they're just plain rotten.
Crap, clickbait would have been so much better. *_GM is run by a Sith Lord_* And Jim Farley is a Jedi.

Another advantage of licensing Tesla's software is that, ultimately, cars will be able to 'talk' to one another. That will be invaluable for crash avoidance and for developing autonomous driving vehicles.
