Hi Folks, Tim here and would like to thank all the subscribers to my channel. Today hit 10, 000 views on this video on my aluminum boat. Pretty awesome indeed. Now that I just got done with RV videos for now getting ready for crabbing and salmon fishing. I will be making more boat related videos which most of you like anyway. Stay Tuned!

Here is an update on this process. Someone suggested aluminum stick weld the seams but aluminum flexes and sealant should be used for this application. Larger thicker metal surfaces like a steel boat should be welded. Check out Dangar Marine who is working on a Steel Trawler and did a lot of stick welding on it. He plans on doing some under water welding in the future as well

There is one downfall of using a wire spin brush is that it will get in places where you don't want it, after painting my boat with a fresh coat of paint and realizing that some of the pieces got into little crevices where I can't pull them out and they are now stuck in leaving rust streaks

I have pretty much the identical boat. Perfect size for 2 person fishing.

Make sure to use a STAINLESS wire wheel to clean the aluminum. Steel wheels will embed iron oxide in the surface which is a contaminant. Use phosphoric acid to etch the metal and clean off any remaining aluminum oxide remaining, as aluminum oxide prevents paint from adhering properly. Wipe down with acetone, then spray a light coat of zinc chromate or zinc phosphate primer. Then apply 3-5 coats of polyamide epoxy such as Interlux Interprotect. This will seal any pits, as well as sealing around rivets, and it creates an electrical barrier so that electrolysis cannot attack the hull. Generally unless there are loose rivets or corrosion holes that go all the way through the metal, the epoxy coating is sufficient.

Is this still working? I have same boat and have a hundred leaks from the seams rivets and hull

If mine didn’t take any water on from the rivets should I still reseal them in epoxy on the outside before repainting? I’m counting over 230 on the waterline and down. Thanks!

That's the exact same boat I'm working on right now! I inherited the boat from my father when he passed just recently. I'm planning to propel the boat with twin 80 mm jet thrusters, powered by two high power/ high torque, dc brushless electric motors each..!! Going to have the Johnson 9.5 completely gone through then put it on the motor stand. Might use some of the interior design layout from yours.

Never use a steel wire brush, it causes galvanic corrosion use a stainless steel if a fiber wheel or glass beads. Then anodize then a self etching primer to seal the bare aluminum . Then a epoxy or poly paint.

Tim Where did you get your little "cart" with nice big wheels like that ?

A better product to use is called Gluv It. Apply it inside. It will outlast the boat.

I like it more than Fiberglass in many ways, only issue is the noise when we are in the ocean jigging. Any methods to reduce to hull noise when the waves hitting it. Thanks 🙏
