Mysterious 'science-fiction' monolith vanishes from Utah desert

A mysterious shiny metal monolith discovered in the Utah desert mid-November has disappeared, leaving authorities and Internet sleuths little the wiser as to its purpose or origins. Some suggest the monolith, which appeared to have been manmade, was the work of John McCracken, an artist inspired by science fiction who died in 2011.

i would say its just someone messing around with the media i mean just look at it there a screws and all 3 corners have a thin gap in all of them not just that the newer one found in Romania is a lot worse with burn marks on the side of it

It's a hollow lightweight movie prop.
They dug a hole only a few inches deep, placed a flat plate on the bottom to rest it on so it would stand straight.
Then they would have shot a few scenes, perhaps over a few days.
Then they took their prop away.
