i say at the end of the video that i'm moving to fedora + qtile, but that was a lie LMAO. did a fresh install of arch on my T460s with qtile, set up a repo with all my dots, the works. dots aren't ready to publish yet since i imported my entire .config folder, which has everything (including private keys some programs need).

rip ubuntu + i3 install. you will live inside of my old laptop that i use for my tv, but you will be missed o7

anything i left out or you're curious about please let me know in the comments.

This is the first time I'm watching you, and honestly I really love this style of content! And once I saw the gloss I immediately thought "linguistics student?" and then I looked up your site. I'm also studying linguistics (just finished the 2nd semester), and it's just great to see that!

Looks really neat and would love to see the setup process!

I recently started off with Linux on KDE Neon to become well versed with the environment for my CS undergrad. So far it's been troublesome but nothing that I couldn't solve with a bit of searching and reading.

[ the Reddit protest is not helping :') ]

Looks nice. How do you collaborate with Word users for tracked changes etc? If you write papers this is usually needed

Question about using neovim to write text with long paragraphs. Did you find a way for it to scroll by screen line (when paragraphs are wrapped), instead of jumping around paragraph by paragraph?

Just curious, did you ever post a setup of your x61 and do you still use it? I want to try to restore this x60 I have but Idk what distros, wms etc would even support it's hardware or if it's even worth it

I've tried latex before, but couldn't get it to compile well with traditional chinese. How is your experience with foreign languages?

ewww Ubuntu 🤮 hahah just kidding!

Reallyyy nice setup man! I've started with i3 almost a decade ago (when I was like 13 yrs old 😅). I ended up switching to awesome-wm after a year of using i3 and never looked back. I gave qtile a try in a virtual machine and it's definitely a very VERY close to second to awesome-wm IMHO. Glad that the transition went well for you! even though it didn't go 100% to plan 😅 keep rocking man 🤙🏽

Learned a few things with your set-up as well! I feel kinda dumb but I've never discovered or came across that Neovim Focus plugin (true-zen?) ever! I'm gonna try it out and maybe even permanently add it to my config! definitely seems great for coding full screen… I really wish I had this when I was still writing LaTeX/ms papers 😆. Zathura was also a favorite of mine, but I had to revert back to Evince or Atril because nowadays, I tend open a lot of complex PDFs with forms and sometimes very weird formatting that Zathura can't seem to fully figure out. For writing LaTeX papers though! Zathura and MuPDF were just TOP-TIER. I've never heard of `sioyek` as well so I might check that out too. Cool stuff!

Subbed!

I was on Manjaro for like 2 years almost consistently and then the install broke for like the 5th time and I did not feel like fixing it and at the time I really had to use Windows for video editing (didnt have a good virt-manager setup 😭) so i installed windows and i have been on it for the past couple months

Recently i upgraded my PC and i feel like since i recently upgraded my pc now would be a perfect time to install linux again so im thinking about it lmao

idk if i would try out arch and see if it works for me or if i should just stick to manjaro but ya

so many points at which i went "aw fuck yeah", including but not limited to neovim, latex, syncthing, hugo (out of curiosity, any reason you chose that over other static site generators?). good luck teaching Britt vim shortcuts tho LMAO

(btw i use arch)

Not trolling or trying to start a flame war but why are you using Ubuntu? Linux uses have proved that this os spies on you via the desktop itself. Has something changed with Ubuntu that makes it safe to use again?
