Yobba Rays on... Blu-rays on... the classic sci-fi puppet adventure is back, and looking better than ever!

Believed lost for many years, Space Patrol was finally recovered in 1997 in the form of 16mm prints (and two surviving 35mm copies). Initially released on VHS, a DVD collection followed a few years later, now deleted and considered a desirable collectors' item (copies have been known to change hands online for upwards of £300).

Remastering technology has advanced considerably since those first masters were produced, and although Space Patrol remains lost in its native 35mm format (two episodes aside), it's still possible to get noticeably better results from the surviving 16mm prints.

Using equipment worthy of Professor Haggerty, the episodes have been remastered to improve the overall quality and clarity of the image. The result is the best possible restoration given the limitations of the source material - Space Patrol is never going to look better than this.

This Blu-ray-only release is available in limited edition retro packaging, designed to resemble a set of imaginary Space Patrol annuals (don't go looking for them on eBay - they were never published!)

And some good news for fans around the world... Space Patrol is region free and will play on your Blu-ray machine wherever you are on Earth, Mars or Venus!

Far out ... finally those creepy robots going past that gagged door. My two two elder Brothers used to push me in front of the TV screen during that scene, knowing that it scared the hell out of me. Bastards! I'm pushing 60 now, and the memory lives on. Thanks for the post!

Oh boy I remember this as a kid in early 1960’s. It used to be scary for some reason! Pleased to see it again.

I remember watching this on channel 2 in Australia when I was a child. I could never remember the name or much else about the show apart from the futuristic city and the ostrich like alien. I'm glad to finally see it again!

I simply CAN'T BELIEVE that this exists! I told some of my good friends from LONG ago about this program. We were ALL BIG fans of the Supermarionation series. However, they thought that I was making up this show. I couldn't remember much about it but I recalled that the "music" was early electronic or quasi industrial. I also remember that the "heroes" were from Earth, Mars and Venus. MOST OF ALL, I remembered the "Galasphere" space ship which I described as a gyroscope. I guess that I DIDN'T lose my mind after all. I recall that this program was DARKER than the Supermarionation series. However, it was entertaining for a young boy of 6 years. I've got another DVD set to order for myself!

Aww, wonderful! I'm a child again. Yes it was a bit scary in parts. Always loved the music at the end. Good old days.

As a kid I was fascinatined by this show. It fired my imagination but now my Yobba rays are all but burnt out. I noticed how immaculate Larry Dart's trouser crease was.

Oh wow; I thought the masters were too far gone to ever warrant anything more than a DVD release - this may not be perfect but I'm really stoked for it.

Although Space Patrol always trailed in the wake of the more glamorous Fireball XL5, I thought Larry Dart, Slim and Husky walked and moved more realistically than Steve Zodiac et al. Also, Space Patrol showed the only example I ever saw, of a puppet fist fight! I'll keep a lookout for it.

My favorite all time show from the 1960's l was about 14 then, now 68 years old.

This program aired on TV in the LA area in the early 60s. It is likely to be one of the inspirations for Gene Rodenberry's Star Trek.
Certainly the character of Husky bares more than a passing resemblance to the character of Spock who, in early treatments, was described as "alien, possibly from Mars". In addition Roddenberry wanted a world where people of other races and other planets work together. A cornerstone of both series.

There was an American show called "Space Patrol" a few years before this. Completely different, but maybe that's why (as far as I know) this was never shown on TV in the US, while all the other shows of this type, starting with Supercar, were.
