You can set wire wool on fire with a 9 volt battery. The finer the wool the better, this is a well known trick by survivalists for starting a fire in a pitch. The electricity that runs through the wire heats to iron the over 700 degrees which ignite the oxygen in the air around the wire setting light to the next piece of wire, creating a chain reaction. This is a really cool experiment to make sparks.
