Bought a 10s Max for $340 off Facebook Market Place, has a cracked back but for $20 I can order one off eBay and fix it. I’ve had it for 2 weeks now and I love the phone. The cameras are nice to have on the newer iPhone but no need to spend the extra money when the 10s MAX is a great phone already.

I strongly believe that if Apple doesn’t purposely slow down iPhones, people would upgrade less frequently especially considering the crazy prices!
Having said this, my first ever iPhone was the 4 which I got in May 2011. I upgraded to 6 Plus in November 2014 and again to Xs Max in December 2018. The 4 & 6+ are still functioning but with issues like lagging and battery draining ultra fast.
So yeah, price-wise, definitely upgrade after 2 years at least. But performance-wise, if you got your iPhone brand new, use it and enjoy it for 3 or even 4 years! Then, when you upgrade, you definitely will see the difference!!
