This is the best explanation I have seen yet. I am moving to a company where the BAs appear to work more as data analysts. So, I'm thinking I'll likely be the person eliciting requirements and creating user stories and writing acceptance criteria as product manager. That's a lot to be getting on with as the PM/PO. I may need to lean on BAs who are happy to work beyond data analysis. Will see. But, thanks for pointing out that this is something that is agreed by the PO/BAs.

My previous role was a BA that supported a PO, but I felt more like a scrap-eater versus having an established routine through each release. So I was more of a "jack of all trades, master of none" and did whatever extra work nobody else wanted to do. If that was write UAT scripts, I wrote them. Do a financial analysis? I did that. System algorithm analysis? Did that too. Create reporting dashboards? Did that. I felt there was no scope to my role, and being a contractor, felt like I really had no purpose there.


But this essentially explains what I should have been doing!

Fr a business perspective, the "product owner" is the person w the profit & loss (or at least sales-revenue growth) responsiblity. That's the line. As you point out, their title could be Product Mgr, Sales Ops Mgr, almost anything. The "project owner" has responsibility for success of the dev project, but not necessarily the product itself. I agree there's no hard line as to who does which BA tasks.

I have been out of work since July, and I finally resorted in taking a BSA role with a company for a contract over a year. I have been a Product Owner and Project Manager. I want to eventually become either of these roles after this contract is complete in 2024. Is being a BSA giving me experience still? They are apart of the agile process in this company and I think I am confused as to what the differences have been. I like it that you stated that there really isn't a difference. In most organizations would a BSA be considered a PO? I am asking for my future and resume experience. Thanks.

A BA in a Scrum framework should work outside the sprints? Because as the sprint starts, we expect the development to be started ryt? Please explain where and when the BA should be performing the activities they are entitled to.. especially when it comes to requirement gathering etc..
