My first ever playthrough I clipped through the floor as Ellie when descending the cliffside to Santa Barbara and every time I look at the full game option for permadeath I think of that happening again

and this is how Ellies journey ended. Dina was traumatised by rocks for life, and Abby lived a quiet life happily. the end.

DIFFICULTY: GROUNDED
Yeah she got grounded all right

A death I had in Subnautica is what made me stop playing hardcore on games.
I was in my Cyclops (submarine) in my storage area and I noticed my submarine tip to the side a little. I was like “huh, that’s strange” and went outside to investigate it. Turns out my submarine somehow got launched and was flying at Mach 2 through the sky and ran me over when I stepped out.

"I was just trying to get down the hill faster." Famous last words.

Ellie tragically died when she slipped and broke her neck on lose rocks. 10/10 realism masterpiece

The true ending: you don’t die a cinematic death complete with tense music and zombies or armed enemies, but instead you get McRocked mid sentence
chom
Bruh, that's such a realistic, stupid death. Humans are incredibly resilient, and yet at the same time if we trip over a curb just the right way, it's insta-death.
Edit: To clarify, I mean that it _looks_ like she just slipped, hit her head on a rock, and died. I'm not talking about speedrun bullshit.

The scariest thing is, something like this is absolutely how you can die. One moment you’re a-okay, then one tiny slip up and you’re gone forever

The closeup on the ground and Ellie being pulled down its perfectly comic, and imagine it had some credits like "THE END" on the screen

Was playing a permadeath run of Ghost Recon with a friend. We were about 5 hours in, when my friend was flying us to an objective in a helicopter, and he realized it would be quicker to fast travel there. He did so, and unintentionally left me in the helicopter which plummeted to the ground and exploded
ThePhlemblem
This was actually rather hilarious. Have perma death on while playing grounded, that’s a real fun time lol
Brandonian
When permadeath is on, the game should just end when Ellie decides to make the 1000+ mile trek from Jackson Hole to Santa Barbara by herself. “You died from dysentery.”

Looks like the wind got tired of being hit.

Literally all of my permadeath deaths were like this

That's what you get, next time walk down the hill like a normal human.
skeetsvar
Unless a game is built around permadeath, you're only signing up for frustration with runs like this.

“Did you do it?”
“What?”
“Get down the hill slightly faster?”
“Yes…”
“What did it cost?…”
“Everything.”

This is an ending that would absolutely subvert my expectations.
