Thanks for watching and playing along with me! My name is Stuart Lehman-Brown, a teacher, music store owner, and musician in the San Francisco Bay Area. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, I set up shop performing and teaching here in the North Bay. 15 years and 50,000 lessons later I’m still going strong, and sooner or later I’m afraid I’m going to start posting videos of my dogs. It’s inevitable.

You forgot that learning the notes of what you call the top string are identical to the notes of what you call the bottom string. BOGO. We’re 33% done with learning all the strings. 🎉

I was trying to memorize the fretboard a couple years back, but then because of life/work wasn't practicing it as much, and was JUST thinking to get back to it again when I open youtube and see this fresh upload. Thanks so much for always reading my mind!

Hey Stuart, I was wondering if it would be possible for your next technique-centered lesson to be about muting strings with the fretting hand? As in, the kind of muting you do when you want to strum multiple strings but have only 1 note ring out? Its a common technique in a lot of the music I like but the very few guides on youtube make it seem so complicated. I was hoping maybe you could dumb it down for me? Thankyou!

what was most effective for me was reading and playing (easy) sheet music. like the ones with letters for kids. and then doing it all over the fretboard. if you don't use knowledge you'll forget it. and its quite fun.

With this, youve just taught me every single note on the fret board, notes inbetween the ones you explained are sharps/flats, and you can apply what you taught to every single string, going down the musical alphabet (ABCDEFG repeat), if A is open on the second string, first fret is A#, B, C, C# and so on. Thank you stu
