When the tomb of St. Peter was discovered in the 1950's under St. Peter's Basilica it contained the bones of a robust man aged 60-70 years old. There were no foot bones present and it was speculated that the Romans had trouble prying the nails out and decided to just hack them off.

Since Saint Peter's cross is upside down(the way he was crucified), his cross symbol became popular. Some people didn't know what his cross meant, so the people who didn't know what it meant believed that an inverted cross is a satanic symbol. The Wikipedia article says, …”traditionally used as a Christian symbol, but in recent times also used as an anti-Christian symbol. In Christianity, it is associated with the martyrdom of Peter the Apostle.”

There was a man in his early 20’s exploring one of the American cave systems who got stuck upside-down and I believe it took him a little over 24 hours to die...and he was a fit younger man. They ended up sealing the cave entrance, essentially making it a tomb for him because they couldn’t remove the body.

It’s weird that people would just go to watch someone be crucified
As like a celebration of them dying, or just some entertainment
Humans are weird

My conclusion is: People in the past took "reject humanity, return to monke" way too seriously back then

According the bible, Jesus was crucified once. He died on the cross, and his final words were "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit" (NIV). Jesus didn't die until he knew he wanted to. He rose 3 days later and ascended to heaven shortly after.
The reason for his crucification was because he had claimed to be the King and Pilate was pressured by the people to be killed.

Now I’m a believer, so I may not be very liked by many, so if I were to end up talking about this, I’d probably be yelled at or called crazy. But the way that the infogtaphics show does is the best way. They tell it on both sides for both believers and non believers

I like that you can talk about these stories and characters in association with stories to remind people about how cruel an empire can be. People use this term "crucified me" over the most mundane responses sometimes probably not aware of how citizens used to be crucified for mundane reasons by the Romans.

The victims feet were nailed to the sides of the upright the feet were nailed through the heel bones. And normally they only carried the cross beam as the vertical post was permanently in the ground.
Why the heel bones? in 1968 in literally the suburbs of Jerusalem there was found an Ossuary a bone box containing the remains of a crucified man who was crucified around the time of Jesus Christ. His name is Yehohanan son of Hagakol the crucifixion spike is still embedded in his right heel bone. The tradition that Peter was crucified in Rome is exactly that. Tradition. In the early 1950's a grave site near the Mount of Olives, I want to be sure but I believe the name of the church there is called Dominus Flevit. Where there are Ossuaries of different Biblical characters. One for Mary and her sister Martha, Ananias and Sapphira the couple who mysteriously die in Acts chapter 5, and the Ossuary of one Shimon Bar Yonah. Simon son of Jonah is Peter's given name. Jesus gave him the name Peter Petros in Greek and Kepha in Aramaic both terms mean a stone. Jesus gave Simon Bar-Jonah the name Peter because of his Declaration of who Jesus is when Jesus asks "Who do you say that I am?" To which Peter responds "You are the Christ. The Son of the living God." Matthew 16.

I think peter didn't feel worthy die the same way as his Messiah, so he requested to be crucified upside down. My dad is the pastor at my church so I learn a lot from his sermons and I can easily ask him questions if im confused.

There was a researcher that studied crucifixion, and concluded that the palms were not nailed, but the wrists. A nail will pull right through a person’s thin, flat hang, yet hold strongly driven in among the closely spaced bones of the wrist area. The researcher actually crucified corpse, and studied how weight distribution affected how well the victim would stay put.morbid, but logical.

I don't get why so many people think this position is "worse" than the regular direction for a crucification. With his age and health, the blood rushing to his head, while upside down, would cause dizziness and he would pass out in less than 24 hours, before a major feeling of asphyxiation would even take place. Aka. He'd most likely die while not even conscious.

Compared to the regular position, where you're out in scorching heat for possibly days, dying slowly of metal poisoning from the nails, dehydration and starvation, while potentially being picked at and bit into by wild animals. Yeah.. I think if Peter HAD to die via crucification, upside down was the better, faster way to go.

2:27 if I remember correctly, the art behind it was that you would be left dangling with your arms above your head, making it hard to breathe, forcing you to use your arms to carry yourself up to get a breath, but once you tired out, you eventually died from that
