5-10 bucks to watch LEC is a hard sell

Giosel

I would personally be willing to spend $5 if that was access to all leagues, if it was $5 per region then nah no chance. $10 is probably the limit where I'd pay it but I wouldn't be happy about it

In France almost every high end competition is fully booked, even showmatch organised by streamer are fully booked. I think the teams must start to engage their community in real life.

The best way to monitize watching esports is paying like $5-10 a month to be able to watch any POV of any player. There always has to be a free option to watch esports or else the veiws go down drastically

I agree to a certain extent - I can’t think of any IRL sports where you don’t have to pay for a cable package or streaming service to watch it, WITH ads. But im just gonna say that there have been certain attempted sponsors in esports that are absolutely not worth it no matter what, like Saudi money or US military money. I’d rather have Team Raid Shadow Legends in the LCS before I see that truly heinous shit in LoL esports.

You have to basically raise the battle pass price in game (I mean skins and icons work too for little effort), and bundle the esports portion in I think. That would subsidize it, or you simply create an esports pass.

I feel like they need to pay me 5 dollars to watch the LEC

They need bigger and even better live events. I never spend a dime watcvhing sports online, but I drove 15 hrs straight to st. Louis, MS to watch LCS finals

It would be interesting to see if they swap to a subscription model how many viewers they get. If the viewership drops substantially, they may not be able to get any more sponsors/ads from companies as there may not be enough eyeballs to justify the cost. And then Riot will be in serious trouble.

i mean ill be damned to spend a got damn penny on a ufc match let alone an esports match

I’d love to see them implement something like the book in Dota (I can’t remember what it’s called) that lets you engage with the game, match by match while giving rewards.

It doesn’t *have* to be ppv, there can be give and take where riot still gets what they want.

Edit: Dota

I guarantee this mentality is 1 to 1 with league players buying skins. Riot lost the view of good will of the community a while ago in a way that will never recover. I have friends who will spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on csgo skins who used to spend money on league that haven't for at least a half a decade. That's not even including the negligence of franchising and how it ruined the entire league and the fan base. I couldn't imagine people buying skins much less anyone affiliated with Na esports which is in a far worse spot in the game. In fact we are at that point now in which people are not willing to even watch the esport for free because it is not worth their time, much less their money.

I would spend a good amount of money a month if the product also increased in quality to match the fee.

I definitely would have spent money to watch seasons 3-6.

Issue is that the product kept getting worse and worse to a point that even at the price of free, people are not willing to tune in anymore.

I think this is a fair point, like this ain't some non-profit museum funded by the government, If fans don't even find it worth to pay 5-10 dollars a month to view the "sport league", it probably shouldn't exist. if it meant to be self-supporting sports league.

IWD overestimates esport if we take out the stats for China (where we could discuss making esport pay), the peak viewership in esport is 7M, in several countries sports with a peak viewership of +10M are free, esport would have to reach at least 50M viewership without China to have this debate.

Wouldn't mind maybe a yearly sub type thing, riot would have to release their own app to watch it on via TVs etc

clyntus

To be fair they could also introduce like "riot premium" account for a monthly sub with benefits for their multiplayer titles and you get either higher resolution, all the games of pro-play instead of a few or something in return

Problem is, either costreaming would need to end, or everyone would just watch that for free instead

If they made me pay 5 bucks a month per region, id easily pay 5 bucks for the lec and either extra for internationals or have it be included

If there was like a netflix of Esports, where all the Vods would be upload, in a easy to find and understand way, with shecduals with future events. With atleast CS, LoL and Dota. I'd be willing to pay netflix prices. Or more if it's premium services, I dont have the know how to find matches live, so i always watch vods, but its impossible to find vods when all Tourney upload in different places.
