Exploring San Juan’s History and the Original Pina Coladas, Plus the Chocolate Surprise

Day 5 aboard Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam brought us to the beautiful and historic port of San Juan, Puerto Rico! 🏰 We started our adventure with a visit to Castillo San Felipe del Morro, immersing ourselves in the rich history and stunning views of this iconic fortress. Wandering through the vibrant streets of Old San Juan, we stopped for lunch at the birthplace of the Pina Colada to sip on the famous cocktail and enjoy delicious Puerto Rican cuisine.

Back aboard the ship, we dined in the Main Dining Room, where the food and service were not bad this evening. After dinner, we enjoyed a few laughs at the World Stage theater with a comedian, and capped off the evening with Holland America’s signature “Chocolate Surprise” event—front-row seats included! 🍫 Don’t miss this jam-packed day of history, flavors, and sweet treats.

I love San Juan! It's my favorite port. I'll be there on January 21st....We're going to explore the cemetery next to that fort and feed the cats at the cat sanctuary in San Juan.

We wanted to go to that fort so bad! But now I’m glad we didn’t because it was pouring down rain that day! ☔️⛈️☔️⛈️

We flew into San Juan to cruise on the old Carnival Fascination, we took a bus around the city before we left. We didn’t get to see the umbrella because they had protests going on and they had a long flag hinging instead of the umbrellas.
