The author asks at the end who of all evelyn's husbands is your favourite and why? And who surprised you the most?
No doubt harry was the best, I think he was even better for her than celia. He was the one who made her something, the only one to show evelyn she didnt need to do sexual favours to rise up. The only one who actually had her back during every single mishap in her life, he was a constant, so much like how james was to monique's mother. And I think I love that kind of love way more than don's first love or celia's ups and downs.
But I cant say I was surprised by any of her husbands
I cant remember if I was surprised by Don, because as the book progressed, he became labelled as an abuser.
I feel bad for ernie diaz but not too bad because he still got to move on, marry and have many children so he lived a happy life.
I never liked max nor did I believe he ever loved her
The singer mick was giving me the ick throughout
Rex, I was actually worried for evelyn. Because he was the only one who truly seemed like he didnt mind doing anything if he saw the benefit to him, and if it wasnt for evelyn's divorce plans, he wouldn't have cared to jeopardise evelyn's career and let her movie tank
So yeah cant say I cared for any for her husbands besides Harry
Never really felt bad for Don
And believe it or not, I thought Celia was bad for evelyn, career wise or even life wise in general. Meaning and love, I let evelyn talk about that.
But she always had made her choose between her and the world, even down to her daughter. Only when she chose celia over her own flesh daughter, did she allow her back into her life. So feelings wise, sure she loved her. But actions wise, she was okay with her ruining her world, losing everything and everyone if it meant having her. And thats why I didnt think Celia was good for Evelyn.
In my view, harry's love or james' love is so much better than celia's. Love based on actions, words, being each other's best friend, being there for each other, wanting the best for each other, valuing the other's happiness over their own. I love that way more than hormones, passion, sex, ups and downs, intense feelings, you name it.
