The Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 DSP is a 16 in / 8 out FireWire audio interface, featuring real-time DSP-powered tracking and mixing solutions tailor-made for the modern home studio environment.

Alongside DSP-powered compression and EQ for ultra-low-latency tracking and 'comfort' reverb, is VRM; a Virtual Reference Monitoring technology that lets you hear your mix in different environments, through different speakers and from different positions, all just using headphones.

Saffire PRO 24 DSP draws on twenty-five years of mic pre excellence. The two Focusrite preamps capture every subtle nuance of your sound whilst ensuring low noise and distortion. Meanwhile, high-quality digital conversion and JetPLL™ jitter reduction technology ensure pristine audio quality as your audio flows between the analogue and digital domains.

This live recording session of The Travelling Band was made using a Saffire PRO 24 DSP audio interface. The track was created using Saffire MixControl and Pro Tools 9.

The EQ and compression are only available on the first 2 inputs, and can be recorded to your DAW; the reverb is available to any source which comes through Saffire MixControl, and is just for monitoring purposes.

All you have to do to enable EQ or compression (aka Input FX) is to switch its respective on/off control to the 'on' position in Saffire MixControl. You can see Iain switch over to the Input FX screen at 1:57.

Just bought this.. but the non DSP version. If it wasn't for your YouTube videos you wouldn't have had a customer. Thank you.

The PRO 24's XLR's are mic-level inputs, so you'd want to connect an external preamp to the 1/4 inch line-level input.

Thank you, i was hoping this was possible. Most of the forums were directing me to the adapter.

You can use either a firewire 400 to 800 cable, or use a simple firewire 400 to 800 adapter.

The level out of most phono preamps will be at line level, you just need to go into the jack input on the unit and select 'Line'. If you then set the gain knob to around 12 o'clock you will around unity gain.

Yes, the vocals are going through the Pro 24 DSP

There are no current plans to make another interface with the VRM function built in, although this is not to say that we won't in the future. Don't forget that a Pro 24 has the ADAT inputs so, if you require more inputs, you can use an 8 channel mic pre with digital output (e.g. OctoPre MkII) to add further inputs to your system.

ADAT can only carry 8 channels, so it's only possible to add one OctoPre or ADA8000 to the Pro 24 DSP.

Our Liquid Saffire 56 has two ADAT inputs instead of one, so you can add two external preamps for 16 additional inputs.

@ZinayH The pro 40 doesn't have built in DSP to add Compressor, eq or reverb like the Pro 24. However you would be able to do this from within your daw if you had the plugins to do so.

Good video. I too have a Pro24 DSP and was shocked at how bad it sounded when using with Garageband, however, using it with Logic Studio it was great. Super crisp and clear sound and the VRM feature is quite useful if mixing using headphones only. However, I would be cautious using the VRM not to get too bogged down adjusting your mix for every scenario - its for reference only. I'd suggest just getting your mix right with the flattest sound headphone AND monitors too.

Only Focusrite preamps were used; There are 2 in the PRO 24 DSP and 8 in the OctoPre MkII Dynamic.

@v1o We've uploaded the dry stems to SoundCloud (see link in video description) so you can listen to the tracks exactly as they sounded before mixdown.

I'm not entirely sold on the Saffire but I'm a fan of The Travelling Band now :)

It's 5 months, but a phono pre-amp will also have EQ circuitry, without which reproduction will be top-heavy.

We just released Saffire MixControl 3.1, which brings official Mountain Lion compatibility, so you should be good to go!
