Some speculation has suggested that cases are milder with the new variant, at this moment, it is very difficult to know. It will likely take weeks to months before enough data is gathered on hospitalisations and death rates to be able to make a more accurate decision.

Will our vaccines work on the Omicron variant?
Difficult to say at this moment, what we have seen with other variants is that effectiveness may be reduced slightly but the key part is that protection against hospitalisation is still very high. Meaning that getting the vaccine and the booster will likely help protect you and your loved ones.

Thank you for this information. I had a feeling, in the beginning of all this, that we’d either see waves of infections or mutations, knowing how viruses work. I hope it doesn’t get to the point where we need a yearly vaccine, like the flu. I just got my third vaccine last month. I guess we’ll see what happens
