How to Tie a Black Midge Pupa Fly Pattern.

This is a little black midge pupa nymph that is great for fly fishing tailwaters like the Green and San Juan River but also other rivers that have large hatches of midges. I like my smaller midge patterns to be dark, have a great profile, and have a little sparkle. It’s a quick tie as all midge patterns should be.

What size ranges do you find most effective?

Hi, It's not letting me respond to your comment, but you definitely could use it in a tandem rig, depending on the situation.  I use a bunch of different types of indicators depending on the presentation that I want.  I've got a few articles and videos about nymphing on the website if you're interested.  For me, presentation and fish location dictate everything.  Good luck!

you said you have used this on the San Juan (I assume in New Mexico), have you found one specific size that works better?
