Dap Kings time!!! Such cool grooves coming out of this legendary band, and such a vibe. Thank you to my Patron namesake, Ben, for this request!
I think what makes a bassline like this so compelling, is that it's basically an ostenato, ie the same figure over and over, but Bosco "Bass" Mann manages to slip in some kind of imaginative variation, almost every time it comes around. He does this without taking away from Ms. Jones (that'd be a difficult task!!!), but while at the same time being a pretty foreground instrument in the mix. A true master of this kind of music.
Also, I had to do some tuning shenanigans to get this at all in tune, as the original was pretty much exactly in between Eb and E. The tuning was super weird throughout the whole thing, but I did my best to get my bass as close as possible. I put it in Eb because it seemed a bit closer than E - hope that doesn't offend anyone!
Enjoy, all!
