Q: Can you check if a Web Server PORT is already used? If so then use a different Port? Thanks.
A: Yes, this can be done through a built-in custom action: Check TCP Port, here is a help article:
Q: Can you add Windows firewall exceptions for the IIS as part of the Installer? Thanks.
A: Yes, you can do so by using the ""Firewall Exceptions"" tab of our ""Firewall"" view. More information about this in the following article:
Q: Are there advantages/disadvantages to using the custom settings in the UI versus using the XML file configurator in Files and Folders?
A1: If you refer to the Custom Properties section of IIS I would recommend using it instead of the XML file in the configurator in Files and Folders; mainly because if the website install fails, then the custom properties settings will be reverted automatically during rollback.
A2: I would say that using the UI would be much easier and less error-prone. This would be the biggest advantage. Regarding disadvantages, I am not aware of any.
Q: Can we install a Microsoft SQL Server instance within the same installer that does IIS Web Server and connect the two up? Like, set the ConnectionString. Then skip SQL Server on an upgrade.
A: Yes, this can be done. Here is a help tutorial:
