For me it depends on the engine sound. Once I step on the pedal and the engine sounds like it's about to reach its limit for that gear I just shift upward.

Isn’t it fine to use any gear for anything so long as the revs don’t drop below 1k ie not lugging engine? I always go in 5th when I hit like 40km or above
