I guarantee you have never heard anyone sing like Janis. She was unique

Her raspiness instantly makes her recognizable when she sings. You can sense her pain and anguish in her songs. The power of her voice and her range made her a superstar in her own time.

What a talent. Such a loss to the world for her to have die so young. Of course the next Janis Joplin song to listen to is Me and Bobby McGee. <3 U.

Janis's voice was definitely unique! The energy, grittiness and emotion she delivered were unparalleled. I am so glad you appreciated those qualities and enjoyed this song...my second favorite by her. First is assuredly Me and Bobby McGee, written by Rhodes Scholar Kris Kristofferson...another example of grit!

Ohh... my dear, sweet Janis. I had the privilege of seeing her in a bar in the San Francisco area in the 60's, maybe 67'or 68', and she blew me away, along with everyone else in the bar. I had never heard blues/rock like that before, nor since. She was a talent too soon gone. Thanks for the memory.

You found your way to Janis!! - so glad you enjoyed her, one of the finest female vocals. Raw blues passion. Amazing, she pours out her heart in her voice leaving you in no doubt as to her feelings. This is the power of the blues. Great reaction again ❤️

That famous soulful, bluesy rasp has been described as "whiskey fire."

Janis wore her soul like a blanket trying to protect her from pain, hurt, anger, & even love! This woman was one of a kind, & sadly missed by everyone who loved & understood her music ❤️ 💚 💙 She truly was a gift that was only with us for a short time, but what a glorious time it was!!! Thank you both, for such a thoughtful reaction ❤️ 💚 💙

Watching Joplin perform was a TRIP! There were singers that had that special "cry" in their voice; Billie Holiday, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, but Joplin's was as "RAW" as open wound. Her soul was was partially exposed in every song and performance. You felt it like a tremor from an earthquake.
