This video provides an educational breakdown and vocal performance analysis of Japanese singer Ado’s stunning version of "Unravel", an iconic anime theme song originally from Tokyo Ghoul, reimagined by one of Japan’s fastest-rising stars.

As a vocal coach, I explore how Ado blends delicate breathy tones, clean soaring vocals, and guttural fry distortion to create overwhelming emotional intensity. We’ll also examine how her “faceless” public image demands even greater vocal authenticity, making her one of the most fascinating singers in Japanese music today.

🎧 In this video you will learn:
🔍 Vocal Technique Analysis: How Ado quickly shifts between breathy, clean, and distorted textures for emotional storytelling.
🎶 Emotional Delivery: How subtle vocal nuances convey panic, vulnerability, and gut-wrenching intensity.
🧠 Performance Psychology: How hiding her face amplifies vocal authenticity and emotional communication.
🎵 Artistic Comparison: How her technique in "Unravel" compares to her previous collaboration with Imagine Dragons.
🎤 Creative Insights: Why fearless emotional delivery is crucial for captivating performances.

💥 Related Artists:
Perfect for fans of LiSA, Reol, YOASOBI, and Eve will appreciate Ado’s intense, genre-bending style and her ability to convey raw emotions through vocal artistry.

Don't know if anyone said it yet, but all the prerecorded harmonies und backing vocals are also Ado. When she was asked how she records her songs she said she goes into the studio, alone or with a single engineer, and records every single line, backing vocal and harmony until she's satisfied with it, sometimes hours on end and into the night.

Giga & Teddyloid, who composed this song, said on a radio show called "Ado's All Night Nippon" that they were inspired by Indian movies. As they said, the song uses traditional Indian instruments such as tabla (percussion), sarod, and sitar (stringed instrument).😊

5:00 During the break, when the tabla comes to the forefront, Ado sings the lyrics "Don't deceive me" in a fast-paced rap-like voice, which is pronounced "Tabura-Kasuna" in Japanese, a play on the percussion instrument tabla.🤭

Aishite aishite aishite live version. Absolutely crazy vocals. If unravel is a strong showcase of her emotional singing, This one shows her vocal control, then Aishite Aishite Aishite is a combo of both. Great emotional singing, and her vocal range can make her sound like different people. From her usual raspy, to light and cute, to low and cold, she blends them so well

NGL Ado's song and covers are emotional rollercoasters in my ears. I don't even understand music but it's so unique to put many things into one session of singing that it gets me listening without skipping any of it. and when it ends I ask myself, "is that it? I need more!"

Thanks for breaking and explaining the parts of her signing so even I would able to understand. It is so fun.

The title of this song, "唱", is a single kanji character that means "to sing", more specifically "to sing a song with Japanese lyrics", but at the same time, it has two meanings with a similar pronunciation, "to show" 😀

This song was also the theme song for Universal Studios Japan's "Halloween Horror Night ~Zombie Do Night~" two years ago. A PV animation was also made to go with it. Also, at that time in Japan, a video of this character dancing became a big buzz on social media ✨😆

Hi! Gotta tell you something, there's a video on youtube of ado breaking down and explaining how she sings this whole song. It only has automatic translation, but its enough to understand what's going on and to get a lot of insight into her work process and what goes on inside that mind of hers. I found it fascinating, and maybe you'll enjoy it too!

"Biggest artist in Japan?" She's become one of the biggest artists in the world (without showing her face). She's selling out 15, 000 to 20, 000 capacity arena's in the USA on a tour this summer and has done the same in Europe. She's taken the throne from Babymetal as Japan's most successful International Artist.
