My 2017 Lancer 2.4 with AWC is an excellent car...34MPG on the highway. I love the simplicity of it...only regular maintenance, struts and sway bar links so far...as well as a new battery after 7 years of ownership...will get new tires (both Winter and Summer) this year. I have 215, 000 KM and I plan to drive it for years to come.

I'm guessing this review is only applicable to the US? Because the mirage g4 here in ph is doing really well. This car targets consumers that are particular in fuel efficiency. I came from a 2nd gen crv and although i miss having a car with high clearance, great suspension and a lot of power and speed, the fuel efficiency of this car outweighs all of what I mentioned, plus it's fun to drive. It may not be a fast car but it runs decently. In the video it mentioned "cheap interior", that's because it is an affordable car. Another plus is maintaining this car is no problem, no problem with availability of parts and prices are pretty good too.

In North America and Europe, Mitsubishi was never in the radar of most buyers and the automotive writers. With so many automakers offering more competitive models in terms of design, technology and performance, Mitsubishi is at a disadvantage. Low sales, low brand perception from the public. The 2007 upwards generation lancer model is good, but suffered from lack of updates amid the influx of newer models from other automakers. This is true for other mitsubishi models. They were/are not bad cars, the competition just got stiffer and better (?) with more tech, features, performance, design. In the ASEAN region, the car buying culture is different. Vastly different. People perceive Asian, especially Japanese cars to be more reliable and trustworthy than American or European brands. And not all car brands are present in ASEAN. And design and technology that evolve so furiously fast in Europe and NA take a backseat in the region.
So, while the automotive world and the buying public in the west prefer cutting edge design, technology and performance, some people in some parts of the world prefer low key, but quality models from smaller makers. Like Mitsubishi. The current Mirage is 12 years old. The interior really looks dated, the engine is noisy. And no replacement is in sight. But as long as it is reliable and decent for the money, people do just fine with it.

No one is buying the Mirage, and taking it on a road trip. This thing is designed to fill a void in the car-buying industry. One consisting of either new drivers who recently graduated High school, don't come from Wealthy or Middle class families, but need basic transportation. Either while in college, or when first entering the work-force. Or, individuals who later in Life have hit hard times. They are very slowly picking themselves back up off the ground.

Found a cheap room to rent. Found a job so they can earn money. But need a reliable car to get to that job, and back home; on a daily basis. I don't trust any so-called "Expert Opinion" that says buy a used car (with tons of potentially expensive hidden issues that'll need to be fixed) over a brand new Mirage (that'll realistically be trouble-free for at least a handful of years). A used car would be better?? That is just ridiculous! Comparing the Mirage to other cars is also ridiculous. It should actually be compared against taking Public transportation. Which in many parts of 1st World countries tends to be woefully sub-par outside of major cities. For what it is, the Mirage is a perfectly acceptable car.

Yes, I know it's not the cheapest new car sold in America. The Nissan Versa is better in quite a few ways. However, if you want a more pragmatic hatchback body style over the Versa's sedan-only option, the Mirage is your only choice. And, while the Versa technically is the cheaper of the two options. Mitsubishi dealers want Mirages off of their lots. So, they will bend over backwards offering potential customers usually huge rebates to purchase this already inexpensive car. Financing? No problem! Terrible Credit? They WILL get you a loan on a Mirage. The more they sell, the more Mitsubishi will ship them more popular models to sell on their lots. That's how it works with all car brands.

I still drive a very dependable ‘14 Montero sport.

I think the Lancer is fine for budget conscious drivers that don't need the best. They certainly aren't paying much for it. I would choose the manual transmission, of course.

1) most of the car companies use a cvt transmission. 2) this vehicle video don’t tell you about quality 3) in my life I own 5 mitsubishi and my experience is very good car overall Mitsubjshi is very good car
