not gonna lie sir, this video did not break the split ring commutator down sufficiently, I understand its purpose but not how it carries out its function, it would be helpful to have more diagrams and moving images, however I doubt it is necessary to explain how it works as long as you know its function

Think of the split ring commutator as a sling-shot where it releases when the current is broken (at the gap) and the wire is flung to right/left (depending on the current). It uses the momentum it gains to fling itself back round.
