Yes but to rank there they had to ran amazon ads.

For example, I had to spend around 1000$ in ads for my book to rank on page one - (less than 1000 search results niche).

Then you can deactivate ads and start selling organicly - but first, you do have to spend on amazon ads.

I am sure that you run ads for any of your books, if it's not amazon ads, it's some other sort of ads/promotion - and that's normal.

Maybe it's not necessary and your book can be discovered organically in some months/years - but that's unlikely.
So yes, ads are a must.
Unless you are literally the first and only in the niche.

Helium10 costs $99/month. It’s like using an elephant gun to shoot a fly! Way too powerful a tool for beginners but for those who are advanced KDPers, it might be worth it. It is for all products on Amazon and not really just for books.
